We founded Pine Tree Seafood with three values in mind: family, environmental consciousness, and our local Maine community.
Our founders, Jim Hartley and his father-in-law Dick Whitmore, may come from different backgrounds, but have more than the lovely Mrs. Hartley in common. Both Jim and Dick have a deep desire to give back to the community they both love.
Jim uses his background in hospitality to create the kind of environment that helps each customer walking through the door feel right at home. Meanwhile, Dick uses his 40 years coaching college basketball at Colby College (as one of the top winningest coaches in DIII basketball) to create a strong team at Pine Tree Seafood.
Family first
The Pine Tree family starts in-house, as many of our employees are part of the Hartley/Whitmore clan. We extend our family approach by connecting to our community in Scarborough, Maine and its surrounding companies, fishermen, and farmers.
And last, but certainly not least, we feel our customers become part of our family. We believe that by sharing our fresh seafood with customers nationwide, it’s yet another way to connect our American family from coast to coast.
Environmental respect
We pride ourselves on providing the freshest seafood and produce to our customers. Both our neighbors right here in Maine and our national customers around the country know they can count on fresh, sustainable seafood. Local Scarborough customers enjoy organic and fresh produce, grown just a few miles away from our store.
Community focused
At Pine Tree, we love giving back to the community we’re part of. At the backbone of that community are the Maine fishermen and farmers who we’re proud to partner with. Over 75% of the goods in our store are from local fishermen, farmers, artisans, and companies who distribute from local sources.
We also invest 10% of our profits back into area economy through local foundations, charities, and organizations. It’s our belief that the business community at its best can be a kind of family.
